This song is dedicated to the Brazilian singer/composer, Milton Nascimento whose incredibly beautiful music was an early inspiration. I wrote this song one day at school before my students arrived. I had been teaching pre-school and my head was swarming with sing-songy children’s rhymes and ditties. I was trying to rid them from my ears and sat down at the piano, and out came this tune. Years later, I asked Toninho Horta to record it with me, and he came up with the Portuguese lyrics. The song is a celebration of childhood, and of life.
